Funny People

Posted in Everyday by Witt on January 31, 2010

I was expecting funny. It had some and that some were really hilarious. However, most of the movie was a revelation of Adam Sandler’s dramatic prowess. I’ve seen hints of his acting depth from his previous works Punch-Drunk Love, Spanglish and Reign Over Me, but this one made me forget of his moronic characters Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore.

Judd Apatow totally abandoned the theme he’s known for and became a film maker. He put together this wonderful team of comedic talents and made them act as themselves: comics. Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman were naturals. Apatow’s wife, Leslie Mann was great as usual. Was a little disappointed with their kid’s screen time though. I was kinda expecting lengthy appearances after their brilliant performances in their dad’s last outing Knocked Up. Last but definitely not the least, Eric Bana. I never thought this guy could ever be funny. And he was here. The Mandarin and rugby bits were priceless.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Sandler in this type of movie in the future, again. Cheers to the gang! Well done.
